18 degrees below zero

Wow!!! This morning at 5:30am it was 18 degrees below zero here at our rural home. Why do we live in Minnesota? We have such extreme temperature; it can be 100 plus degrees in the summer months and drop to minus 40 degrees in the winter.

We live here because we absolutely love it; the people are friendly and kind. There is a bunch of wild life to be seen every day. We can snowmobile in the cold months and boat during the warm months; we can visit Lake Superior or go cruising down the Mississippi.

Since it’s so cold, I just know our routine. We’ll warm up with a cup of coffee, do various chores around the house, then later on tonight, settled on a warm spiked Apple Cider drink.

Here is a recipe of one of our favorites winter drinks:

INGREDIENT:

1 quart boiling water
1/3 to 1/2 cup dark brown sugar (it depends on sweet you like it)
3 or 4 orange spiced tea bags (the amount of tea bags is determined by your taste for orange)
2 cups of Appleton Rum (or similar light rum)
2 cups apple cider
6 or 7 cinnamon sticks
2 table spoon of butter

Remove boiling water from heat and put in the orange spice tea bags. Wait about 5 minutes, remove tea bags, add the sugar, apple cider, rum and two of the cinnamon sticks. Reheat, but do not boil again.

Serve in cups with 1/2 teaspoon of butter and use the remain cinnamon sticks to stir your drink while sipping on it.

Remember to drink responsible, and do not get wasted (LOL); this drink will definitely keep you warm.
